8mm Movies

These movies are from Bill Evans-Parker and have been converted from 8mm to video format. Except the first was 16mm and probably shot by someone else. Most years we have guessed at due to how old we look and have gathered 8mm reels together in terms of events (we think). All sounds were added using an editor to make them more watchable.

1955 Lakes Picnic

1955 (about) Jenny, Eileen, Betty with Bill and friends on a picnic in the Lake District (or could be nearer Manchester?).

1962 Old Chapels

Where I was born in Cumbria, England, a place called Old Chapels. I think this is Betty’s friend Trish and family.

1963 Drigg Sand Dunes

Taken when we lived at Drigg, Cumbria, England. The baby I think is our next door neighbour Penny Reid and her brother Jonathan.

1964 Aldershot

Starts down at Drigg sand dunes with other kids (could be Tish, Walter and family?). Then to Drigg beach and Duane with a broken arm. On to canoeing and camping at Aldershot. Finally back to Drigg sand dunes with Betty filming.

1965 Canoes & Christmas

Canoeing with the Kirk kids Michael and Sally on the river Irt at Drigg. More canoeing I think maybe Holmrook then the Irish Sea with my Aunty Liz. Next Wastwater and more canoeing. Then on holiday around Stonehenge, camping and I think the Farnborough airshow. Back home to the lakes for Christmas with Betty’s sister Eileen and Duanes’ carol service.

1966 Avon & Severn

Summer holiday down Cheddar Gorge with vintage cars then the Severn estuary and Wells Cathedral. From there to Goodrich Castle and some more canoeing. Finally back to the Lake District with Aunty Liz and Nanna (Martha Parker).

1966 Lancaster & Lakes

Lake District with a visit from Aunty Liz, Reginald Parker and Martha Parker. Then on to Lancaster University rag with Betty in the parade. Back to the Lakes again with Aunty Pat, Uncle Disk and cousins Wendy and Tony Darnell. A trip to Keswick and the boats on Derwentwater.

1967 Scilly Isles

Holiday to the Scilly Isles, England with then Prime Minister Harold Wilson. More canoeing and beaches.

1968 South Wales

Ringway airport with planes landing and taking off. Manorbier castle (South Wales) then off to the south Wales beaches for Duane and Blane playing in the sand.

1969 Americans Visit

Betty’s cousins from Canada Harriet and Norma (I think) in Keswick then Hardknott pass in Eskdale. Next a visit from my American cousin Jimmy my aunt Elaine and uncle Clayton Threatt. They visit a garden fete in Holmrook then show off their American car.

1975 Venice Vacation

Our trip to Venice, Italy, lovely place, rides on gondolas and St Marks Square. Then travel back through the alps Switzerland, Liechtenstein and France. Finally back to Ravelsaye House in Cumbria to play with a Pyrenean Mountain puppy.
